Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson two lawyers. As a young girl of just five years old her family moved to Oxfordshire and went to an Oxfordshire-based Dragon School. Emma was inspired to be an actor in the age of six. For several years she was in the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. In the school, she was taught singing dance, acting and singing. When she was 10, Emma had taken part in several Stagecoach Productions as well as school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone was the film of 2001 remake to J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was cast in 1999. Casting agents stumbled upon Emma by way of her Oxford theatre instructor. After a string of auditions for eight consecutive times, producers David Heyman told Emma and the other candidates Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they had been cast for the roles of the three main characters Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. The release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's cinematic screen debut. The film broke records for opening-day sales and opening-weekend takings and also was the highest-grossing production of the year 2001. Critics praised the film and the performances of the three top young actors. The popular British newspaper The Daily Telegraph called her performance admirable. Emma won the Young Artist Award as the Most Outstanding Young Actress in an Feature Film. Emma was nominated five times for her performance in the film.
